Aneo steps up its efforts in the Swedish renewables market with strategic acquisitions and appointments
(Trondheim, January 21, 2025) – The renewable energy company Aneo has acquired two experienced development teams in Sweden, taking on an attractive project portfolio and taking new steps towards becoming a significant player in the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy in the country.
“The start of 2025 is all about blue and yellow for Aneo as we successfully execute key initiatives in our neighboring country, delivering on our Nordic ambitions,” says CEO Gunnar Hovland. “With this acquisition, we strengthen our value chain in Sweden, aligning with our strategy to become a leading industrial player in the development, construction, operation, and ownership of renewable power production in the Nordics,” Hovland continues.
The acquisitions of PNE Sverige in Gothenburg and VKS Vindkraft Sverige in Motala strengthen Aneo’s prescence in Sweden with five experienced employees and several associated consultants, as well as an attractive project portfolio exceeding 1,000 MW of wind power and 100 MWp of solar power under development across all Swedish price areas. Several solar projects could be operational ahead of 2030, adding more renewable energy to the Swedish power system within a few years.
VKS Vindkraft Sverige, founded in 2010, has developed three wind farms currently in operation with a total capacity of over 200 MW. PNE Sverige, established in 2020, has focused on development of wind and solar projects, particularly in northern Sweden.
“Since Aneo’s establishment in 2022, we have systematically pursued numerous growth initiatives in Sweden, including project development, partnerships, and acquisitions. Acquiring an experienced developer has been a top priority given our ambitious growth plans,” says Kari Skeidsvoll Moe, Executive Vice President of Renewables at Aneo.
“With a strong local team in Sweden, we will realize the attractive project portfolio already developed and build a solid platform for further scaling and new projects,” Skeidsvoll Moe adds.
Alongside the acquisition, Magnus Axelsson steps into the role as General Manager (VD) of Aneo Renewables Sweden, where VKS and PNE will be integrated. Axelsson brings over 15 years of experience from the European wind business most recently as COO/Deputy CEO at Eolus Vind before joining Aneo in autumn 2024 to support the company’s growth plans in Sweden.
“I am very pleased that Magnus Axelsson will lead our Swedish growth initiative. With his extensive experience and broad network, he is the right person to lead the realization of the existing portfolio and create new business opportunities in this critical market for Aneo,” says Moe.
Mattias Törnkvist from PNE Sverige will take on the role as Head of Project Development, leading the daily project development work at Aneo Renewables Sweden. Törnkvist has more than 20 years of experience in wind power development and construction in Sweden and Norway.
“We are delighted with the successful acquisition of VKS and PNE and to welcome five skilled new colleagues to Aneo. This important step allows us to significantly accelerate our activities in Sweden,” Moe concludes.
Aneo’s Bold Strategy in Sweden
Aneo already has a significant presence in Sweden, including wind and solar power production, energy market services, EV charging, energy infrastructure, and cooling technology for the retail sector. With today’s announcement, Aneo takes a major step into the early stages of the wind and solar value chain, establishing itself as a significant developer of new power production in Sweden. All of this aligns with Aneo’s ambitious growth strategy to become a major industrial player in the Nordic renewable energy market, where Sweden is a key focus area.
Aneo is also a co-owner of the Swedish solar energy developer Sunna Group. In January, it was announced that the two companies will build two large-scale solar parks in Sweden with a total capacity of 43 MWp, scheduled for commissioning in 2025/26.
